Sports writer Ernie Mehl was the father of baseball in Kansas City playing a pivotal role in the Philadelphia A's move to Kansas City in 1955. Mehl also broke the story of owner Charlie Finley's attempt to move the team to Dallas prior to the A's relocation to Oakland following the 1967 season. The Ernie Mehl award is presented to "A baseball figure who has contributed greatly to the overall image of baseball both on and off the field". Former Kansas City Royals baseball player Jim Eisenrich was presented this prestigious award in the year 2000. Eisenrich who was also the recipient of both The Kansas City Royals player of the year (1989) and The Tony Conigliaro Award (1990) enjoyed a productive big league career and has helped many through his foundation that helps kids who suffer from Tourettes. Truly one on sports "Good Guys" Eisenrich's dedication to both the sport he loves and people in general made him the perfect recipient of this award. Great figurative piece from this popular Royal!!!!
